Lower your internet and phone bills
Check your speed, your plan and your promotions once a year.
Internet and phone bills tend to creep up when promotional prices end. A yearly check usually finds savings.
Internet
- Run a speed test and compare it with the speed you pay for
- Many households don't need the fastest tier
- Buy your own modem and router if the rental fee is high (check compatibility first)
- Ask about low-income internet plans; many providers offer them
Phone
- Check how much data you actually use
- Prepaid plans and smaller carriers often cost less for the same coverage
- Ask about family plan prices and autopay discounts
- Lifeline, a federal program, offers a phone or internet discount to eligible households
Before you call
Note your contract end date and promotional prices. Ask politely what plans they can offer to keep you as a customer.
